A Couple of Days

The man opened his eyes.

Everything around him was odd, but nonetheless familiar.

– Hello.

– Hi…

– We’ve taken your conscience into a new body.

The man finally looked at his body and realized it wasn’t his.

– Don’t worry, you’ll be so much more than what you were before.

– I… I don’t understand… And at the same time, I think I do…

– It’s latent knowledge. You still know everything you used to know, but you also have additional knowledge. That’s how you speak our language.

It was only then that the man realized this language was new to him.

A second doctor spoke:

– You come from a simulation. We let it run and we extract the most extraordinary individuals as they’re approaching their end. Your life begins now.

The first doctor added some information:

– We also run separate processes to improve our bodies. You are now in one of our latest models. How does it feel?

The man took a minute to grasp this new reality. It wasn’t extremely difficult, with all that latent knowledge available.

The body was astounding, but something felt unfinished.

– Will the simulation keep on running?

– Yes.

– And you will extract other people from it…

– Probably, yes.

– Can I go back in for just a while?

– We can allow that, yes.

– Then please let me.

– We will, but you should know that the simulation has been running. A couple of days will have passed since you left. Do you really want to go in?

– Yes, I do.

– Then in you go. We’ll see you soon.

The doctors resumed the process.

Inside the simulation, the man’s body was resurrected, and he went on to tie some loose ends.

Outside the simulation, the doctors waited for the return of Jesus.
