ReliaQuest Bowl Michigan V Alabama 12/31/24

In the ReliaQuest Bowl on December 31, 2024, the Michigan Wolverines defeated the No. 11 Alabama Crimson Tide 19-13 in Tampa, Florida.

Michigan capitalized on Alabama’s early mistakes, forcing three turnovers in the first quarter. Kicker Dominic Zvada was instrumental, contributing four field goals, including a 45-yarder, to build a 16-0 lead. Quarterback Davis Warren connected with Fredrick Moore for a 13-yard touchdown pass before exiting the game due to a knee injury. Freshman running back Jordan Marshall, stepping in for Michigan’s top two backs who opted out for the NFL Draft, earned MVP honors with 100 rushing yards on 23 carries.

Alabama’s quarterback Jalen Milroe faced relentless pressure from Michigan’s defense, resulting in an interception and two lost fumbles. Despite these setbacks, Milroe managed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Robbie Ouzts and led a drive culminating in a 24-yard field goal by Graham Nicholson, narrowing the halftime deficit to 16-10. However, the Crimson Tide couldn’t overcome their early errors and were held to just a field goal in the second half.

This victory marks Michigan’s second consecutive bowl win over Alabama, following their 27-20 overtime triumph in the 2024 Rose Bowl. Under first-year head coach Sherrone Moore, the Wolverines concluded the season with an 8-5 record, including notable wins over rivals Michigan State and Ohio State.

Alabama, led by first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer, finished the season at 9-4. The Crimson Tide struggled to match their usual offensive production, particularly in the rushing game, due to Michigan’s defensive efforts.

The ReliaQuest Bowl showcased Michigan’s resilience and ability to capitalize on opponents’ mistakes, setting a positive tone as they look forward to the next season under Coach Moore’s leadership.
